PNKSLM106: Holm - Alien Health
RELEASE DATE: September 8, 2023
- 12’’ orange/transparent splatter vinyl - edition of 100 units
In 2022, Mikkel Holm Silkjær, the frontman of Danish indie rock combo Yung released his long-awaited debut solo record as Holm. Titled “Why Don’t You Dance”, it was a product of three years of writing and nearly six months of recording, and a gleefully varied guitar-pop record that veers between styles.
On second album 'Alien Health', he continues to step away from his group’s predilection for taut rock and roll and instead embracing a different side of his musical personality, one defined by his sharp ear for a hook, as well as - crucially - his burgeoning ability as an expressive lyricist. Alien Health is full of melodic and addictive cuts and is a honest, reflective, and emotionally-charged body of work.

about
Holm, the frontman of Danish indie rock combo Yung, last year released his debut solo record “Why Don’t You Dance” via PNKSLM Recordings. Since then, he's been touring Europe as well as working on the follow up that is expected early fall 2023. The addictive and melodic indie rock track “Lose the Shoes” is a first taste and another proof of his continuous development as a songwriter and his sharp ear for a hook.
Holm on the track: "Lose The Shoes is a song about being haunted by flashes of remembrance of a person you once loved but have now parted ways with. The song contemplates the figurative room you find yourself in when you detach yourself from this person. It’s a room of many sensations, racing thoughts, no lust and at times it feels like a room without a door, however, ultimately this room leads to change and sometimes when you’re stuck you don’t fully comprehend how freeing change can be."
The single is released together with a video directed by Manon Mugnaini Girault, he says: "Lose the Shoes is a powerful anthem about the journey of healing and finding peace after a major life event. Our music video follows the artist as he searches for comfort through the perfect chair, only to discover that sometimes the path to healing is filled with unexpected twists and turns. Join us on this visual journey of growth, resilience, and self-discovery.”
I can't stop listening to this album, and I keep coming back to it. Really catchy, fantastic addictive choruses, great vocals, great guitar work, great lyrics... Hard to pick one favourite because they're all classics in their own right. Bloma
